Answer

The processes of film production has significantly changed since the 1920s with huge impacts on how films designed and consumed. One change is the move away from cinema releases to modern day streaming platforms. A key example of this change is how Snow White was re- released multiple times for audiences to see in cinema after it's initial release. This allowed it to generate huge amounts of revenue for Disney and save them from bankruptcy as people didn't have any choice at the time for film consumption as if you wanted to watch a movie you had to go to the cinema, this was also important as people wanted to see the new techniques that Walt Disney made for creating Snow white like rotoscoping and technicolour. Furthermore, as technology progressed Disney capitalised on the home video market with special editions released along side the films for fans that then grew to become collectors items for their rarity.

However, in the modern day development in technology and the popularisation of streaming platforms with Netflix being released in 2007 has caused a great shift in how movies are produced for consumers. Firstly, modern Disney productions such as Shang Chi are now made with new technologies like CGI however, due to size of Disney and it being a global conglomerate are able to pay to shoot on locations and mix to two ways of production to allow them to create scenes like the fight scene in Shang Chi that look highly realistic. In comparison to Snow white consumers now want to be able to consume new media from the comfort of their home and are happy to pay a reasonable monthly fee to do so instead of paying for the ever increasing prices of cinema tickets especially after Covid as many cinemas struggle to survive. Disney seeing this created Disney+ at the start of 2020 that saw an explosion of subscriptions sold once Covid hit in March that drastically changed how movies like Shang chi were released. Shang chi although being a very high grossing movie in cinemas globally due to its star power in Asian countries and the power of the Marvel brand was also rushed onto Disney+ as early as possible due to the number of people who don't want to go to the cinema and the fact of it being exclusive to Disney so people would have to pay for Disney+.
