Guantlett's identity theory states that identities are created around media consumed by a person and an identity is formed by piecing together different parts of media.

In Stranger Things Guantlett's theory is shown through the main character's in the show being the group of boys. This is highlighted through the boys personalities being based around media present in the 1980's. This is also present throughout the show with them naming the Demogorgon after a character in Dungeons and dragons highlighting the influence of media on the boys lives. The boys also base their attempt to find Will in the pilot episode on wanting to be like a comic book hero. This style of 80's media has also influenced audiences as it opened a new generation up to life in the 1980's which re-popularized the 1980's style of LFTVD/ movies from the time with some watchers dressing like they do in the show taking inspiration from characters.

In Lupin, Guantlett's theory is also presented through the main character Assane Diop who bases the whole persona of his character he was playing during the heist from a book series named Lupin the gentlemen burglar. The book franchise influences the way Assane caries out the heist choosing to use others whilst playing the part of a rich business man interested in buying the necklace to get what he wants. It also shows how media can influence multiple generations as Assane was given the book from his father as a gift when he died suggesting the book influenced his father in someway maybe to be a gentlemen and dress in smart attire suggested by the scene when he helps Mrs. Pellegrini fix her car. However, presenting how media can influence different people in different ways.
