Technology changed a lot in that time - and Disney was at the forefront of that
Multiplane
Disney wanted to get rid of the flat backgrounds in shots so came up with the multiplane technique to eliminate the problem of when zooming in and out the background would change size.
Cell
Hand drawn pictures placed over backgrounds so color comes out behind it
Disney made it popular. Used until the 90s when the computer became popular.
Large staff force was needed.

Dye transferred to 3 different color strips

By 1932 Disney bought rights to use technicolor
By 1940 only 12% of films used technicolor
Rotoscoping
Tracing over an actor to make a scene
Early animations were to stiff
Makes video more fluid
