Representations in LFTVD's attracts a wide audience to their shows by being highly diverse. I agree this is important to portray and subvert stereotypes. Gilroy states that there has been an African diaspora created by the slave trade that caused a transatlantic culture that is African, American, Caribbean and British. Britain has failed to mourn its loss of empire, creating ‘postcolonial melancholia’, an attachment to an airbrushed version of British colonial history. Lupin and Stranger things use this theory to show the change and reluctance to change in different
Bell hooks says that characters are separated and created by different factors such as gender, race, class and sexuality instead of being focused on representations. In Lupin this is highlighted through the close up shot of Mrs Pellegrini paired with Babaka's wide shot to show her fear and mistrust of Babaka in the scene and highlight the difference between the two characters. In conclusion I believe that Representations are more diverse than ever to attract the most amount of viewers. This is evident through things like Lupin being filmed in a way that feels more like a Hollywood film to enable international audiences to connect with it more easily, as well as there being auto dubbing on the show so that audiences from other countries aren't blocked by a language barrier. Stranger things also creates characters as representations to make them be more easily understood as well as using a lack of intersectionality by only separating characters by gender so that a wider group can connect and project onto the characters.
