Claymation

from the 'Trumptonshire trilogy' of children's shows. Distinctive stop animation style. Began in the 1960's

Like 'Sesame street' in the states

Pitchfork's London- based contributing editor Laura Snapes says the 'Trumpton' fire brigades roll call is like a poem everyone knows

Trumpton inspired line used in Champagne Supernova

No crime in Trumpton its a happy world

Trumpton reflects the British values

The Wickerman

cult

community

secrets hiding

Police Sergeant Neil Howie journeys to the remote Hebridean island Sommerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl

Howie is a Christian and is disturbed by what he finds

When there are poor harvests the islanders make sacrifices to make sure the next will be bountiful

Summerisle tells Howie that Rowan was not a sacrifice Howie was

The village forces Howie in a Wickerman statue along with various animals, set it ablaze and surround it

Sun shines behind the remains afterwards

Similarities and connections

British traditional values

both inspired songs

community both appear pleasant

Cult/mob mentality of people suggests people will believe or do anything if other people do

Normal setting with people in the town doing suspicious activities links to the idea of secrecy. The red looks like blood

The scene with the beef wellington replaced with a cow in pastry- highlights people know what their doing but do it anyway.

Blood dripping down suggests that people are hiding something and that its deeper than the idealistic town that is shown like in Trumpton but it doesn't actually exist.

Model town scene with man and inspector waving foreshadowing impending doom

XXX= moonshine (illegal homemade alcohol with high %) moonshine suggests that the town wants to stay isolated from wider society

Fruit picking- suggests the slave-like nature of the town

'float or drown'- emphasizes the need to fit in

speared boar wickerman textuality
