Media language driving test summary
Media language is media communicates meanings to audiences using through forms, codes, conventions and techniques.
Things to consider in media language
which modes are used in the text- still image, moving image, spoken words, written words
which tools are used in each mode- font, camera angles, colour
what meanings and effects to they convey- connotations of media language
Camera angles
high angle- makes objects look smaller, insignificant or vulnerable in frame
low angle- makes objects look more imposing, powerful or dominant in frame
birds eye view- gives a wide view of everything in frame, but makes things look unnatural often used in tv shows such as Stranger things in the opening episode where it is used as the creatures eyes as it looks at its prey.
canted angle- off kilter shot used to suggest confusion, disorientation, sleepiness
eye level- neutral shot used to make the audience feel like their watching the action unfold and that their part of the scene.

connotations- association of denotation
Barthes theory
The theory suggests that a image has been taken over by a sign and lost its original meaning, for example Nikes change from a running brand to a fashion brand as well as 4x4 offroad cars being used for day to day use.
