Disney+ has been so successful by relying on already their very large loyal customer base that will want to watch Disney's catalogue of films and tv shows. It is also successful due to the large amount of releases that are Disney+ exclusives that will bring in more people who either fans of franchises under Disney may want to see the next installment. As Disney owns everything on their platform they don't need to negotiate external contracts to be allowed to have shows on their platform, this means they have an advantage over Netflix which may have to remove tv shows or movies due to an ending contract that could result in subscription loss.
